Scopitone Festival 2014

Scopitone is a week-long festival of digital arts and electronic cultures. Held in Nantes every September, it offers a concentrate of today’s musical and digital creativity, mixing music, video, design, interactivity, robotics, architecture and more.

Ten striking and unusual venues play host to the fifty or so artists scheduled each year, bringing a buzz to the whole city. Concerts, exhibitions, installations, workshops, talks, visits and screenings – mostly free – make Scopitone an eagerly awaited end-of-summer treat for more than 40,000 festival-goers of all ages .

For artists, digital professionals, researchers and businesses the Festival offers debates, talks and workshops on the cross-cutting themes of innovation, scientific research and digital creation. For school-kids, there are introductions to new art forms and techniques of digital production through visits, workshops and other events.

Scopitone has been staged every year since 2002 by Songo, the association responsible for running Stereolux, the centre for contemporary musics and digital creation in the Creative Quarter on the Île de Nantes. Part of La Fabrique, Stereolux is one of the key venues for the Festival.

Stereolux is supported by the City of Nantes, the DRAC des Pays de la Loire / Ministry of Culture and Communication (SMAC scheme), the Département of Loire-Atlantique, the Pays de la Loire Region and Nantes Métropole.

The entire Stereolux team (25 people), together with the technical staff (stage managers, sound engineers, lighting and video technicians…) and a whole host of others (bar staff, kitchen staff, security personnel) work hard every year to make each Scopitone Festival the best yet.

Based on the video above, this year’s festival is sure to impress! Can’t wait!
