Ok Go’s The Writing’s On the Wall

Ok Go goes at it again with this fun music video featuring the band’s four members moving over a Brooklyn lot, through a series of perspective painted illusions. We’ve seen how these types of perspective illusions can create amazingly breathtaking projection mapping effects, and Ok Go’s long shot video is no exception. While there is no direct projection mapping, in one shot, a camera finds bassist Tim Nordwind’s moving through a mound of trash; and in another, the “Writing on the Wall” title appears to be a large painted wall, when in fact, what you see is a trick through delicate positioning of the eye.

The Writing’s On the Wall music video from this year’s Hungry Ghosts took nearly three weeks to create and over 50 takes to accomplish. Hit the jump to see a behind the scenes look at how they made the video. In frontman and co-director Damian Kulash’s own words:

“It was important to me that we didn’t add a layer of meaning that’s not already there. We wanted to be able to have messages in there, but I didn’t want them going throughout the entire song in way that would make you feel like you were reading the whole time.”
