As a tribute to ozone generators everywhere, Toshiba recently released a projection-mapped experience showcasing a fun explanation of what might be going on inside these powerful devices. The piece is very well done and demonstrates forced perspective at its finest. The projected content is rendered with an animated, virtual camera, and to achieve the correct appearance, the physical camera must follow a very similar path at capture time. What’s interesting and impressive about this work is that the cameraman is mimicking the virtual camera path manually as opposed to the camera being moved mechanically (like in the popular Box mapping).
The video wasn’t done without a bit of self promotion — the device used as the projection surface also happens to be a Toshiba product. In any case, the result turned out awesome! For more details, check out the “making of” video below.
