PHOBIA is a projection mapping project for a recent show at UCLA for the Design Media Arts Program. The experience involves a subject standing within an enclosed 4′ x 4′ x 8′ environment. All four walls of the enclosure are projected on, while custom sound and design sets the stage for a dramatic and claustrophobia inducing encounter.
From the creator, Alec Maassen, “PHOBIA is a projection mapped installation about a term I refer to as ‘Digital Claustrophobia’ and the digital environments that we currently live in.”
More than just a comment on our current digital landscape, PHOBIA transports the viewer to another plane, where walls are closer than they appear and where you never know what to expect next.
