In an augmented reality environment, you can now experience the sandy dessert of Jakku, as if you were actually in the Star Wars movie. The experience is called Holo-Cinema and is brought to us by John Gaeta and a group from the ILMxLab team. Says, Gaeta,
“We’re just trying to point out right from the beginning that there will be a form of AR that will be as hi-fidelity as the cinema that you see at some point. I can’t say what year that’ll be. But at some point, we’ll have intimate holo-experiences with performance and things like that.”
Viewers of the experience wear a pair of lightweight, active shutter glasses along with a motion-capture system. Holo-Cinema brings to life characters projected onto walls, and moves them in 3D space around the viewer. Gaeta believes that Holo-Cinema is just a glance into the future of what experiences augmented reality technology will bring us!
