We have seen a number of projection mapping experiences hit the court, particularly with mesmerizing tennis, hockey and basketball opening ceremonies and half-time shows. Tack on the House of Mamba, a state-of-the-art basketball facility in Shanghai. The facility incorporates a full sized LED court with brilliant visuals that react to basketball players and their motions. While not projection mapping, there are fascinating interactive experiences that enable players on the court to enjoy completely new and immersive training experiences.
I could see this facility really shaping up and improving a player’s basketball skills, and it comes complete with LED visuals designed to promote strategic exercises and agility reflecting Kobe Bryant’s on-court skills and training. The visuals in the video are in fact curated by Kobe Bryant himself, but the system can record and display visuals of other expert players. Coupled with motion sensors, you have an end to end system that can combine sensing and display in truly new and meaningful ways. Truly magical!
