“Projection mapping without projectors” doesn’t make much sense until you see what Rashad Alakbarov can do. This admittedly made a splash on the interwebs some time ago, but we recently came across his work again and had to share it.
Alakbarov creates coherent, projected images by placing physical objects in front of spotlights. Through meticulous placement and artistry, Alakbarov is essentially able to replace the standard projection pipeline (for example, a color wheel and DMD array) with physical objects. Imagine the setup time if all projection mapping installations were done this way! You can find more of Alakbarov’s work here.
