TBT: Disney Projection Mapping

We are trying something new at PMC this week. #TBT also known as Throw Back Thursdays. We will be re-posting older PMC content every Thursday, in an attempt to re-surface posts that have gotten lost in the grind.

Since we had an earlier post this week showing off tools inside Imagineering, we thought we would recant what the Imagineers have used these tools to do thus far. Here are a medley of videos to remember, and enjoy (including the Once Upon a Time above that was released at Disneyland Tokyo earlier this year):

In 2014:

An updated close up look of the Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train characters with embedded projectors that just opened in May 28th, 2014.

In 2013:

Disney decided to do something big in their parks to celebrate the summer release of Monster’s University. The all night extravaganza occurred with 8 35k projectors to create a spherical projection of Mike Wazowski on Space Ship Earth at EPCOT.

Back in 2012:

A fun and interactive Disney Tokyo Goofy’s Play n’ Playhouse:

Earlier in 2012, Walt Disney World opened “The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow,” one of the most elaborate and immersive projection mapping experiences in a theme park:

In 2010:

Disney released the World of Color, an amazing night time water spectacular that featured 1200 colorful fountains, music from Disney, lasers, fire and an assortment of Disney characters.

This past winter (2013), Disney released an all new World of Color, entitled “Winter Dreams” featuring the song “Let It Go” from Frozen sung by Elsa / Idina Menzel with dazzling water effects.

Truly magical.
